It doesn’t matter that your grandchildren (or maybe even your children) will forget about you someday. What matters is that to someone, sometime, you meant the entire world. That somehow, you made a difference to their life.

Getting the Afternoon Off…

My mom, sister and I had lunch together outside today. It was simply relaxing having the afternoon off just to walk around and breeze through the shops, not having to worry about time.

Of course, it’s awesome getting a lunch treat too!

Eating with Braces

I guess I should make a quick update about my braces. The lack of entries about it has to do with the fact that they haven’t been causing me any problems lately. (Phew!) I’m starting to get used to them being there in my mouth. Of course, I haven’t any tightenings or adjustments yet, but compared to how low I felt the first few days I put them on… I guess I’m really enjoying myself now!

Basically I can eat anything I want, with no problems. I can even eat the stickiest chocolates, the hardest nuts… you name it, I can eat it!

I just have two things I want to mention, they’re not really gripes because I don’t mind them all that much:

1) I can’t bite using my two front teeth. This means I can’t rip the bits off chicken or eat a burger the way I normally do. I’ve got to break up my food into tiny bits before I can eat it. It’s not too bad except for times when my food smells really good and I just want to “sink my teeth in”. Yeah, that expression suits really well. I can’t sink my teeth into food anymore.

2) Food gets stuck in my wires. It isn’t as gross as it sounds, really. Initially I was worried about that but I don’t have to brush my teeth after every meal the way the dentist warned me. I know, I really should! But so far, thankfully, I’ve been getting away with eating all sorts of things while I’m out with my friends.

All in all, I’m getting accustomed to braces. They really aren’t as bad as people made them out to be. Hopefully the next two years will pass by in a breeze.

P.S. I’m having fun flashing my braces to people. Hehe!

Living a Charmed Life.

I always find myself wishing for the future. I keep saying I can’t wait for things to happen and come.

But then I realize I’m missing out on so much of the present. Why ‘hold back’ for the future? We can aspire to reach our dreams while living it today. Don’t end up wasting so much time dreaming of the future that you forget to focus on the Now.

On a different note, I am not nor will I ever be an academic. I’m not a brilliant person nor an exceptionally dedicated one. I love studying and I love to dance but I’m not very good at either. I’m lazy and I’m impulsive. I love to skip lectures at the very last minute just because I can. I love having the freedom to decide what I want to do with my time. Looking at the amount of drive my sister and some of my friends have to excel made me feel a tad ashamed of myself for slacking off so much.

But choosing to focus my energy on other pursuits doesn’t make me a failure. I still matter. It makes me Me. Not an academic nor someone who wins a dance scholarship, but someone with her own hopes and dreams in life. I’m not a brilliant person nor an exceptionally dedicated one. But I am a happy person and that’s what matters to me.

You Can Never Lose Hope

I realize I’m a pretty easygoing person. Actually I didn’t use to be. I used to be the kind who got worked up easily, who was so anal about everything. Now I’m still anal about some things but it’s alot better than how it was like before. I don’t stress or worry as much as I do before. Maybe it’s because my family is generally a hot-tempered bunch so this is my strategy of adapting. Speaking of family… they’ve mellowed quite a bit too. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that this lasts. =)

I didn’t manage to go visiting much with my family this year as everyone was really busy, including me. Actually during the first few days, we couldn’t even leave home as people kept coming! I love having people come to the house. It’s almost like playing a guessing game, to see who’s coming next. =)

Now I shall go back to my readings. Sigh!

On a different note, this just shows you that I’m back on solids. Braces will not come between me and the food I love!
